About

How this library is built

Most quote lists that circulate among aspirants are full of lines the named person never said. Writing a fake quote in Mains is worse than writing none, so this library starts from attribution, not from popularity.

Method

  1. Quotes come only from the sourced sections of Wikiquote entries for 236 thinkers, where each line is tied to a book, speech, letter or interview. Sections marked disputed, misattributed or unsourced are excluded.
  2. Each candidate was read and kept only if it stands on its own and is useful for UPSC Mains, State PCS, an interview or daily life. Fragments, fiction dialogue, offensive or partisan remarks were dropped.
  3. Every kept quote has a theme, the papers it suits (Essay, GS1–GS4, Interview, Life) and a one-line use case.

What you will not find

Viral lines with no source, such as “Be the change you wish to see in the world” (Gandhi), “Integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is watching” (C. S. Lewis) or most “Chanakya Neeti” forwards.
